Nagaland Administration

Bordering the state of Assam in the west, part of Assam and Arunachal Pradesh in the North, Burma to the east and Manipur to the south, Nagaland is one of the seven sisters of North east. According to the 2011 census, with a population of 1,980,602 and an area of 16,579 square kilometers, it is considered as one of the smallest states of India.

Nagaland is the 16th state of India which gained recognition in the year 1963 on 1st December. English is a primary language of the state and it is one of the three states in India where Christianity is a dominant religion.

The Chief Minister along with a council of other ministers forms the government of the state like all other states of India. Unlike most Indian states, Nagaland has been granted a great degree of state autonomy, as well as special powers and autonomy for Naga tribes to conduct their own affairs. Each tribe has a set of councils - at the village, range and tribal levels dealing with local disputes.
