Healthcare in Nagaland

"To keep the body in good health is a duty... otherwise we shall not be able to keep our mind strong and clear." - Buddha

Buddha once rightly said that health is an important part of one’s life hence it needs proper care and concern and it is one’s primary duty. The government of Nagaland too tries to do its share of duty in order to provide the best to its people. Being a state in the north eastern part of India and still developing, the government has been trying to give to its people maximum amenities and luxuries. With a lot of hurdles in communication the Nagaland government has been successful to a huge extent in that matter.

Health and Family Welfare Department of Nagaland

The Health and Family Welfare department of Nagaland has been trying to enhance the manpower, logistic, infrastructure and capacity building which has been clearly envisaged in the 12 year plan. The health department here started in the year 1963 with just a handful of nurses and doctors and a few rural clinics and dispensaries. Gradually, with the inception of the NRHM healthcare within the state took a different turn with increased efforts from the government.

The present department is led by a Cabinet minister and its secretaries in the state level and by the Directors at the directorate level.
